A two-person infrared sauna works only if both people fit comfortably in the actual seating area. The capacity label is a starting point. Bench width, usable depth, knee room, the door swing and the room around the cabin determine whether it is a good daily fit.
This guide focuses on sizing and installation tradeoffs. It uses manufacturer specifications as examples, not a new hands-on test of every model. For brand rankings and review videos, start with the infrared sauna buying guide.
Two-person sauna dimensions: three examples
These are US-market specifications checked for this guide. Confirm the exact model, generation and accessories on your order: older downloadable drawings can differ from current product pages. Dimensions below are inches, listed width × depth × height; bench dimensions omit height.
| Model | Exterior | Bench width × depth | Published power |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clearlight Premier IS-2 | 50 × 44 × 76 | 43 × 22 | 120V; 1,750W; 14.5A; NEMA 5-15P |
| Clearlight Sanctuary 2 | 51.75 × 47.75 × 77 | 44.5 × 21.75 | 120V; 2,260W; 18.83A; NEMA 5-20P |
| Sunlighten Signature II | 50.9 × 45.9 × 77.7 | 45.2 × 20.2 | 120V; 2,006W; dedicated 20A circuit |

Does a two-person sauna comfortably fit two adults?
Divide bench width by two to understand the seating allocation. A 43-inch bench gives each person about 21.5 inches before allowing a gap. That calculation does not measure shoulder comfort, elbow room or how a shaped backrest changes your position. Two adults may fit while still preferring to take turns.
Make a simple mock-up before ordering. Mark the bench width and depth on a normal seat or a cardboard outline, sit together in your intended posture and keep your feet inside the proposed cabin footprint. Do not compare only the exterior width with a sofa: the walls and heater assemblies occupy part of it.
Ask for a seated demonstration or a clear interior photo with a tape measure. For taller buyers, check the distance from the front edge of the bench to the door or front heater. For anyone who has difficulty standing up, entry width, sill height, bench height and a clear exit deserve priority over lights or audio features.
Corner sauna vs rectangular two-person cabin
A corner design can make good use of a room corner, but it does not automatically need less floor area. Compare the full footprint, including angled walls, the entrance and its swing. Two people on perpendicular benches may have more shoulder separation yet share the same central leg space.
- Rectangular cabin: usually simpler to measure against a flat wall; compare side-by-side bench comfort.
- Corner cabin: test both seating positions and where feet meet; ask for bench lengths along each wall rather than a single maximum width.
- One person stretching out: measure usable bench length between obstructions. A two-person label does not mean an adult can lie flat.
Mark the cabin outline on your floor with removable tape. Add the specified clearances and open-door envelope in a second outline. Keep the route into and out of the room usable. This often reveals a problem that the attractive corner product photo does not show.
How much room do you need around it?
The cabin footprint is only one part of the installation. Obtain the manufacturer’s clearance drawing for the precise unit, including roof access, ventilation, wall spacing and service access. Do not enclose a freestanding unit inside cabinetry unless the manufacturer approves the arrangement.
For example, the current Signature II sheet calls for four inches between the sauna and walls and twelve inches above it. That overhead space matters when the room has a low ceiling. Other models can have different requirements; do not copy that allowance into every installation.
Then check the delivery route. The largest rigid panel must get through doorways, stairs and turns. A carton delivered to the garage is not the same as a cabin carried upstairs and assembled. Request panel dimensions and the scope of delivery in writing.
Can it plug into a regular outlet?
Some two-person models use a 120V 15A plug; others require a 120V 20A circuit and matching receptacle. The table shows why capacity alone cannot answer the question. A plug fitting into an outlet does not establish that the existing circuit is suitable or otherwise unloaded.
Give the exact specification sheet and any accessory loads to an electrician before paying a deposit. Do not use an adapter, extension lead or power strip to compensate for an incompatible supply. See the indoor installation planning guide for the information to collect.
When to choose one person or three person instead
If almost every session will be solo and floor area is the limiting factor, compare the one-person sizing guide. A smaller cabin may solve the room problem, but the seating mock-up still matters.
If two adults will use it together regularly, a three-person cabin may provide a more comfortable shared bench. It can also bring a larger delivery footprint and different electrical requirements. Decide which compromise you will notice every week: less room in the bedroom or less room inside the sauna.
Questions to settle before ordering
- Can both users sit naturally without blocking the exit or pressing against heaters?
- Does the quoted price include the exact configuration in the specification sheet?
- Will the largest panel fit every turn on the delivery route?
- Is the proposed room approved for this model, including its temperature and moisture conditions?
- Who handles freight damage, assembly and a return that requires disassembly?
- Are electrical work, delivery upgrades and accessories included in the total?
Two-person sauna FAQs
Is a corner sauna always better for a small room?
No. Compare the taped floor outlines with the door fully open. A rectangular unit can fit a shallow wall better; a corner unit may use an otherwise awkward area well.
Is a two-person sauna suitable for outdoor installation?
Only if that exact model and its required protection are approved for the location. An indoor cabin does not become weatherproof because it fits under a patio roof. Use the outdoor sauna guide for weather and foundation considerations.
Does a wider bench mean a better sauna?
It means more nominal seating width. Heater position, depth, backrest shape and service support remain separate buying decisions. Use the dimensions to shortlist, then compare the evidence and ownership terms for the models that actually fit.
